The words Unilith, Plastofoam, Styrofoam, or expanded polystyrene are synonymous with each other and may have very small differences.<\/p>\n

Unolith
\nIn Iran, Styrofoam is known as Plastofoam, Yunolit and Akasif, whose main name is Expanded Polystyrene or EPS. In many North American countries, this product is known as Styrofoam. Unolite is a light and porous material, usually white, which is used in packaging and insulation, sometimes it is also called white fiber. But in reality, Yunolit is a kind of white polymer and moisture, sound and temperature insulation, which is prepared from petrochemical processes. Polystyrene was discovered in 1839 by Edward Simon. And in 1959, expanded polystyrene was produced by Cooper Company. This material is used for insulation, making devices that require thermal insulation and packing sensitive electrical, electronic and mechanical tools, making refrigerators for transporting medicine\/blood products, transporting marine products (fish and shrimp).
\napplications
\nYunolit is used in cold stores, fishing companies (called freezers) to transport fishery products such as fish and shrimp, sound recording studios and sound isolation in spaces with high noise pollution, as well as making replicas, temporary advertising boards and decorations. Styrofoam is used in the industry. Buildings in different sizes and standard are used as roof blocks.<\/p>\n

\nPolystyrene insulation is known in the Iranian market under the brand name Plastofoam, and this product is offered by Plastofoam Perto in the Iranian market This product is obtained by expanding the polystyrene grains (EPS) in several steps, the result of which is 100% sound, thermal and cold insulation, very effective and affordable for use in buildings.
\nAmong the uses of this product are in the construction industry, refrigeration industry, packaging of goods and home furnishings such as furniture, mattresses and backs. Nowadays, EPS blocks in buildings have replaced clay and cement blocks in roofs and walls.
\nThe following are the characteristics of plastofoam:
\nbeing non-flammable;
\nThe lightness of the structure up to 200 kg per square meter, because each square meter of plastofoam block weighs about 3 kg, while each square meter of cement block weighs 180 kg and each square meter of clay block weighs 120 kg;<\/p>\n

ease of cutting;
\nSpeed and ease of installation;
\nReducing the floor thickness of the floors to a maximum of 5 cm due to the passage of the facilities inside the plastofoam block;
\nincreasing building resistance and lightening dead loads;
\nease of plastering and soil and saving up to 15% in the structure (with the grooves created in the lower part of the block for better adhesion of plaster and soil);
\nHigh durability and greater safety in earthquakes due to the type of density and block granularity and elasticity against vibrations;
\neconomic savings due to less consumption of rebars and irons up to about 20%, as well as savings in concrete beams up to 60 cm axis distance in the roof;
\n100% sound, heat and impervious insulation against moisture and freezing;
\nreducing the cost of roof molding;
\nbeing safe and accident-free for workers when moving to floors;
\nnot having waste and not accumulating construction debris;
\nSaving concrete used on the roof up to 15%;
\nImpenetrable for the nesting of insects and vermin due to the filling inside the plastofoam.
\nThese characteristics have caused the widespread and increasing use of EPS blocks.
\nPlastofoam is supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Building and Housing Research Center and the Fuel Consumption Optimization Organization.
\nAlso, EPS ceiling blocks are approved by the fire department.

\nThis type of polystyrene with the abbreviation Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a type of white polymer to which a foaming agent has been added. which is known as Yunolit in Iran.
